New fire extinguishers, sized and installed correctly.

Buying random extinguishers off the internet is how properties end up under-protected and over the budget. We spec, supply, and install UL-listed commercial extinguishers based on your actual hazard class, square footage, and travel-distance requirements per NFPA 10.

What we supply

ABC dry chemical (multi-purpose)

The most common commercial extinguisher — covers Class A (ordinary combustibles like paper and wood), Class B (flammable liquids), and Class C (energized electrical). Right for nearly every office, retail store, hallway, warehouse, and storage area. Available in 2.5 lb, 5 lb, 10 lb, and 20 lb sizes.

CO₂ (carbon dioxide)

The clean-agent option — leaves no residue, won't damage electronics. Required wherever you have server racks, electrical panels, lab equipment, or precision machinery. Common in tech offices, hospitals, telecom rooms, and industrial control rooms. Sizes: 5 lb, 10 lb, 15 lb, 20 lb.

Class K wet chemical (kitchens)

Mandatory in any commercial kitchen with a deep fryer, grill, or significant cooking surface. Wet chemical reacts with hot cooking oil to saponify and prevent re-flash. Without one, your restaurant will fail its fire-marshal inspection — full stop. Standard installation: within 30 ft of cooking equipment, mounted at proper height with K-class signage.

Water & water-mist

Class A only — used in hospitality, healthcare, and historic buildings where dry-chemical residue would be a problem. Less common but specified for the right occupancies.

Class D dry powder (specialty)

For metal fires (magnesium, lithium, sodium). Specified for specific industrial and laboratory occupancies. We can source if your operation requires it.

How we size your coverage

NFPA 10 doesn't say "put one extinguisher per room." It specifies travel distance from any point in the building to the nearest extinguisher, based on the hazard class:

  • Light hazard (offices, classrooms): 75 ft max travel distance, minimum 2-A rated unit
  • Ordinary hazard (retail, warehousing, light manufacturing): 75 ft max, minimum 2-A or higher
  • Extra hazard (auto shops, paint booths, woodworking): 50 ft max, larger 4-A or 10-B rated units
  • Class B liquids: separate B-rating calculations apply by gallons of flammable liquid stored
  • Commercial kitchens: Class K within 30 ft of cooking surface, in addition to ABC coverage
Most under-protected properties we visit have either too few extinguishers, the wrong types (ABC where Class K is required), or units mounted too high or in places no one can reach in an emergency. We fix all three.

Installation, not just delivery

Every Y&M-supplied extinguisher comes with:

  • UL-listed certification and current manufacture date
  • Mounted at the correct height (handle no higher than 5 ft for units up to 40 lb)
  • Wall bracket or cabinet, securely anchored to the structure
  • Required signage above each unit (red triangle / "FIRE EXTINGUISHER" sign)
  • Initial tag dated and signed
  • Documentation added to your inspection file for the next annual visit

Replacing old units

If your existing extinguishers are past their 12-year hydrostatic test, have visible corrosion, or use obsolete agents (Halon 1211, certain dry chemicals), replacement is often more cost-effective than testing and recharge. We'll do the math with you and recycle the old units properly.
